Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is one of the best budget Fitness trackers / bands you can buy in India. It is priced at Rs 2,199 MRP ( current lowest price here ). It comes with a nice OLED full touchscreen and a heart rate sensor. Mi Band 3 is also water proof upto 50 meters.
I have been using this for almost a month now. So here is my take on this fitness band.
App
Mi Band 3 is controlled and customized using the official Mi Fit App which is available on both Apple appstore as well as Google Playstore. The app has a lot of good features and can be used to change settings of the Band.
Battery Life Concerns ?
Xiaomi claims you can get around 20 days of battery life from a single full charge. However, if you are gonna turn on the Automatic Heart Rate feature, the battery life would last just around 2 days which is to be expected. I am currently using the heart rate sensor to help with Sleep monitoring - so the heart rate sensor is set to ' Sleep Assistant '. My band has 76% battery left with last full charge done 6 days ago. That's pretty good.
Steps Count Accuracy
Since this doesn't have a GPS built in, don't expect the step count accuracy to be 100% accurate. There is no fitness band that is 100% accurate in counting steps anyway.
Display
It has a nice OLED screen with full touch functionality. There is also a round button like area which is like a Home button which wakes up the band when you touch.
How good is the screen visibility in direct sunlight ?
Not Good.
Notifications
You can customize which app's notification should be send to the band. It can display the name of the caller when you are receiving a call which is great, especially when you are driving. However, you cannot answer the call as there is no microphone on the band. I have set my band not to show notifications when the phone's screen is on - i would recommend you do that as well.
Sleep Monitoring
One of the great features of the Mi Band 3 is the ability to monitor how good your sleep is. It is also able to calculate how much Deep sleep you had the previous night. For this feature to function properly, you would need to set Heart Rate Monitor to Sleep Detection.
Firmware upgrades
I already got two firmware updates from Xiaomi since buying it. You don't have to do anything special to update. Firmware is updated by the Mi Fit app via bluetooth. It takes a few minutes to complete.
