Huawei Honor has just launched two new budget Android devices in India with Dual Cameras. Both Honor 7A and 7C feature a 13MP + 2MP Dual Camera setup. They will go on sale in India this week on Flipkart ( Honor 7A ) and Amazon.in ( Honor 7C ).
Are the Dual Cameras on these devices work similarly as those seen on other smartphones ? Short answer is No.
Dual Camera devices like MiA1, Redmi Note 5 Pro etc come with a regular wide angle lens and a telephoto lens next to it. Some other devices come with a regular RGB sensor and then a Monochrome sensor like we saw in Honor 8 Pro, Honor 8, Huawei P20 etc. Then there are LG Mobiles like LG G6. G7, V30+ etc which feature a super wide angle lens along with the regular focal length lens.
On Honor 7A and 7C, the setup is quite different from all of those mentioned above. You cannot actually take photos with the secondary camera on these devices. Instead, this second sensor is used to record depth information to use in Bokeh aka Wide Aperture aka Portrait modes. Earlier launched Honor 7X, Honor 6X etc too feature a similar Dual Camera setup.
