When Apple launched iPhone X with a notch a few months ago, it received mixed reactions from the industry. Some really liked the bezel less design and the notch, while some other hated it. A lot of Apple's own fanboys were furious that they removed the popular and easy to use Touch ID in favor of face unlock.
As expected, almost all Android smartphone manufactures soon started designing phones with the notch at the top. Almost every OEM now has a 'Top Notch' phone in their portfolio. The latest kid in the block is OnePlus 6.
OnePlus 6 has a Full HD+, bezel less display with a notch like iPhone X. Since there is no complex set of sensors for face scanning to use with Face ID on OnePlus 6, the notch is quite small comparing to iPhone X. OnePlus has also released a software update to black out the notch for those who are not happy with it - Good Move.
Apple iPhone X is priced around 80K in Inda while the base model of OnePlus 6 just costs Rs 34,999. Is it worth buying OnePlus 6 over iPhone X ?
Let's analyze. What are some of the things you can find in an iPhone X but not in OnePlus 6 ?
Hardware-wise, iPhone X's major component is it's high end processor. According to the benchmarks, Apple's A11 Bionic chip is much more powerful than the Snapdragon 845 seen on OnePlus 6. Is it noticeable in day to day usage ? No. However, if you love to play high end games, iPhone X loads them a few seconds faster than the OnePlus 6. When it comes to multi-tasking, OnePlus 6 has the edge as it has 6GB - 8GB ram and can hold far more apps in the memory.
In the Camera department, OnePlus for some reason no longer provide a dedicated telephoto lens, instead has a 20MP F1.7 sensor next to the regular wide angle 16MP F1.7 aperture lens. So naturally, you only get Digital Zoom on OnePlus 6 while on the iPhone X, thanks to the dedicated telephoto lens, you get 2x optical zoom.
Camera performance-wise it's a mixed bag. According to some tests done by folks on Youtube, there were times OnePlus 6 produced better images than the iPhone X. Then there were times iPhone X produced better images with better dynamic range and all. In one video test, OnePlus 6 struggled to lock on focus on a bunch of flowers and started hunting for focus which is quite uncharacteristic for a flagship phone to suffer in 2018.

OnePlus 6 vs iPhone X
- iPhone X has better Camera performance overall. However, that doesn't mean OnePlus 6' camera is bad.
- iPhone X is gonna get software updates for years to come while OnePlus 6 are normally supported up to 2 years. OTA updates for older devices are not always fast. They even abandoned OnePlus 2 before the 2 year period. So there is no guarantee OP6 will get major software updates for 2 years. However, you need not worry about this much as OnePlus 6 ships with Android Treble support and a lot of custom roms can be flashed on to it with ease.
- Price is a big factor for many when they choose to buy a smartphone in India. For Rs 34,999, OnePlus 6 is a great value for money device to own. iPhone X current sells for around 85K in India online.
- Glass backs on both these devices mean, you need to be very careful when holding these devices. Gorilla Glass is not shatterproof, so if you are gonna drop it, chances are you would end up with a shattered back.
- Display on the both are quite good. Both use AMOLED screen ( both probably using a Samsung made one ) giving rich colors and deep blacks giving a pleasant experience. iPhone X has a better PPI screen comparing to Oneplus 6.
- Headphone jack - It's 2018 and OnePlus 6 still has got one. Kudos.
