As you may know already, Huawei has launched P20 series recently with three smartphones aimed at different customers. P20 Pro which is the high end variant comes with triple cameras and high end specs overall. P20 is a mid-range variant and P20 Lite is a budget option.
However, if you look at the price of Huawei P20 Lite in India, it is in a mid-range segment. It is priced at Rs 19,999 in India which in my opinion is quite high considering the specs it sports.
So why are we comparing P20 Lite with Honor 7X ? Both these smartphones have a lot of things in common and the price difference is quite big ( Honor 7X Price Drop Offer link here ).
Both 7X and P20 Lite are powered by the same exact processor / chipset - Kirin 659 Octacore processor and features 4GB of ram and 64GB of storage. There is also a 32GB 4GB ram variant available for Honor 7X which now sells for Rs 11,999 ( check here ).
Huawei should have powered the P20 Lite with a better processor in my opinion or should have priced it around 15K. The comparison doesn't end there. There are also some areas where 7X is a better buy than the P20 Lite.
P20 Lite ships with EMUI 8 based on Android 8 Oreo while Honor 7X ships with older EMUI 5.1 with Android 7 Nougat. However, there is an EMUI 8 OTA update available for the 7X. So software wise both are identical.
The camera on both these smartphones are similar as well. There is a 16MP + 2MP Dual Camera combo on the back with an F2.2 aperture lens. This is ok for the 7X as it is priced much lesser but disappointing for the P20 Lite's price.
On the front, P20 Lite packs a higher Mega Pixel camera in India. There is a 24MP sensor while the same phone in some other countries only have a 16MP front camera. On the Honor 7X, there is only an 8MP sensor on the front.
In the battery department, Honor 7X has the upper hand over the P20 Lite. 7X is equipped with a 3340mAH battery while P20 Lite only has got 3000mAh one on board.

Conclusion
Specs-wise Huawei 7X and P20 Lite are not that different. Price-wise 7X is a much better value for money option in my opinion. If you are selfie addict, the 24MP F2.0 aperture front camera on the P20 Lite would be a nice one to have. P20 Lite also comes with a Notch and has a better build quality and looks comparing to the 7X. One other advantage P20 Lite has is a chance to get Android P update which the 7X is not expected to get.
So which one to buy ? If i were you, i would go for the 7X instead of the P20 Lite.
