Sony has launched the much awaited Alpha A9 - their first high end Full frame mirrorless camera targeted at Sports and Journalist photography. This is a very fast camera and can do 20fps continuous blackout free shooting with focus tracking which is going to be insanely useful in sports photography. It also offers silent shutter mode, which would come in handy when shooting the start of a sprint race or to take some candid shots without the subject ever noticing.
So is this better than Sony A7R Mark 2 ? Answer is Yes and No. If you are a landscape photographer or take portraits, and you have a lot of time to focus, adjust and refocus, A7R Mark 2 is still the one you should buy. Sony A9 is exclusively for those who want that 20fps fast shooting, silent shutter and a great buffer thanks to a new sensor technology. A7R Mark 2 has almost the Double resolution and is sharper, and performs better in low light high ISO situations.
However, there is one big feature A9 has, which would tempt many wedding photographers and regular photographers to switch - the Dual sdcard slot. Imagine, you took hundreds of photos of wedding function and came back, plugged your camera and you get a notification your sdcard is corrupted and need to reformatted. That's the nightmare moment for any photographer. With Sony A9, thanks to Dual sdcard slot, you will be able to store images or videos on to both cards.
I am pretty sure the next generation high mega pixel camera from Sony, whether it be Sony A9R or A7R Mark 3, it is gonna carry many features we have seen on Alpha A9. Especially that Dual Sdcard slots and High quality EVF. We might not see the new sensor technology in that, but in A7S Mark 3 or A9S, we will most certainly see that.
