2017 was the year of some great awesome phones from various big manufacturers. It was also the year of bezel less smartphones. Apple iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, S8 series, LG V30, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 etc all featured such Full Vision, Infinity displays. Most high end flagship smartphones launched in 2017 were powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset. 6GB ram in mobiles became a common thing as well.
So which is the best Flagship phone launched in 2017 ? Let's analyse and see.
Google Pixel 2 / Pixel 2 XL : The regular Pixel 2 didn't come with a bezel less screen. However, the bigger Pixel 2 XL featured a bezel less design. The LG made display on that had plenty of issues, which are by now well documented. Apart from the display issues, Pixel 2 XL is, for me, the best smartphone that launched in 2017. The camera on this smokes everything out of the water, especially in low light conditions. Also, Google will update this phone with monthly security updates for 3 more years. So, you would be using one of the best secure android smartphone for a while.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 : MKBHD, in his Best of 2017 Smartphone Awards Video chose this phone as the best All rounder smartphone. I 100% agree with him on that. It has the best Super AMOLED display, very good camera, S Pen features and good battery life making it one of the best phones launched in 2017. Kudos to Samsung for shipping this with a non-exploding battery this time ;).
HTC U11 / U11+ : This is, in my opinion the most under rated Android smartphone of 2017. HTC made a fantastic looking phone with unique design elements. They even launched a transparent back variant which no other oem has ever experimented with. Apart from the looks, it has one of the best Cameras in smartphone. It was at the top of the DxO mark table until the launch of Google Pixel 2. It also features squeeze feature, which allows you to launch apps be simply squeezing the phone.
LG V30 / V30+ : LG was at fault when they shipped LG G6 with older Snapdragon 820 processor instead of Snapdragon 835. So, for LG Mobiles, the true flagship smartphone of 2017 was the V30 or V30+. Like every other phone in the V series, this too offered great features for content creators. It offered a lot of Video recording features such as Log recording, Manual modes, Focus peaking and scene modes to fine tune the looks of the video you are creating with this.
OnePlus 5 / 5T : Even though, most specs remain the same between OnePlus 5 and 5T, there are a few big differences between these devices. Both are great smartphones for the price you are paying for. You can get 8GB ram smartphones for 2/3 of the price other flagship smartphones are selling for. Camera performance, however is still not top notch from them comparing to Galaxy Note 8, Pixel 2 and HTC U11.
